Melvin E. Mech

NEILLSVILLE -- Melvin E. Mech, 85, of Wausau, formerly of Neillsville, passed away on March 14, 2006, at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation in Wausau.

Services will be held at noon Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery, with military rites by the Neillsville Veterans Council. There will be no visitation.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1920, in Bonduel to Theodore W. and Amanda (Kraut) Mech. Melvin married Alma Beyer on Jan, 4, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1995. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force from October 1942 until his discharge in April 1946.

In 1980 he was hired as the plant superintendent for Foremost Blue Moon Cheese Inc. at the Thorp dairy. He graded all cheese for Figi's Inc. of Marshfield from April 1992 through October 1993. He worked as a dairy products inspector for the USDA from October 1993 through December 1994.

He is survived by his son, William (Diane) Mech of Milwaukee; a daughter, Helen (Thomas) Seipel of Sun Prairie; brothers, Vernon Mech of Greenwood and Robert (Ethel) Mech of Kenosha; seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
