News - Marshfield: A frightful accident occurred on the east bound limited on the Central on Sunday morning which resulted in the death of a man named Golasch and serious injury of his son aged fourteen years. Golasch and his son live between Prentice and Westboro, on the line of the Central, and on Saturday evening took the train at the former place for Hewitt. The agent, as the story goes, sold them tickets to Hewitt, but when Conductor Gavin, who was in charge of the train, was taking up their tickets he told them that the train did not stop at Hewitt and they must get off at Marshfield.
On reaching Marshfield they failed to leave the train and the conductor then said to them he would have to carry them through to the next stopping place, Junction City, when they could be passed back to Marshfield and in the morning take the local to their destination. They paid no heed to what the conductor said to them, and as the train was pulling into Hewitt they got up, left the car and going out on the platform, jumped. The father struck in such a way as to receive injuries from which he died in a few hours. The boy was more fortunate escaping with serious injury to one of his ankles. It is said that Golasch was on his way to Hewitt to pay $50 to a party from whom he had borrowed but when examined it was found that there was but five dollars and a few cents on his person.
