Bredemeyer, Martha (26 Apr. 1856 - 3 Mar. 1946)

Mrs. Martha Bredemeyer, one of the early settlers of Colby, Wisconsin, died at her home in Colby Sunday afternoon at 5:30 o’clock at the age of 89 years following an illness of five months. The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby until this Thursday afternoon when funeral services will be held at the First Evangelical and Reformed church, Rev. Robert Leonhardt officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Mrs. Bredemeyer, nee Lemmin, was born in the town of Herman, Sheboygan county, on April 26th, 1856. She was married in 1874 to Fred Bredemeyer, who preceded her in death in 1908.

The Bredemeyers came to Colby immediately after their marriage and operated a general store, the present A. F. Zillmer Co. store.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Anna Thompson of Menasha. Two children died in infancy. Also surviving are two grandsons, a nephew, Henry Lemmin, who made his home with her, and two nieces, Mrs. Fred Wolk of Colby and Mrs. Alvin Schmidt of the town of Hull, Wisconsin.

The deceased was a good Christian, a faithful member of the Women’s Guild of her church, and, being of a cheerful disposition, was well-liked by all who knew her. Many will miss her pleasant smile and greeting.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Bredemeyer were held Thursday afternoon at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby, Wis., Rev. Robert Leonhardt officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were C. J. Kraus, Wm. Schmidt, C. J. Bane, Alvin Schmidt, Emil Wolk and John J. Grimes. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Emil Wolk, Lorraine Wolk, Mrs. Emilie Amundson, Mrs. Oscar Dittmeyer, May Fricke and Jeanette Sixel.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson and Mrs. A. B. Jensen of Menasha, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heineman of Merrill, Mrs. Arnold Burkhardt and John Grimes of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Bitzer and Mrs. Paul Jantch of Medford.
