Mais, Paul J. (31 May 1881 - 8 Oct. 1946)

Funeral services for Paul J. Mais, age 65, of Unity, who died of a heart attack October 8th while visiting in Pittsburg, Pa., were held Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Wis., Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Herb Kanter, Ed Feit, Tony Will, Sylvester Tennis, Bernard Tennis and Melvin Tennis. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. S. Tennis, Mrs. M. Tennis, Mrs. Tony Will and Mrs. H. Steinwand.

Mr. Mais was born in Two Rivers, Wis., on May 31st, 1881, and was married to Anna Huber on October 26, 1905. She died on Nov. 4, 1919, and on Oct. 2, 1939, he married Elizabeth Brehm. He received his education at Unity and was a teacher previous to his marriage. After his marriage he farmed for 21 years four miles west of Unity, and, since 1936, when he moved to Unity, he was an insurance agent. He was a member of St. Mary’s church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Surviving are his widow, four children, Mrs. Lauretta Cox of Chicago, Mrs. Marie Lane of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Hubert P. Mais of Tyler, Texas, and Mrs. Orville Schultz of Unity, two sisters, Mrs. H. J. Welsch of Colby and Mrs. Charles Frome of Manitowoc, and eight grand children. One daughter, Mrs. Adene Collins of Chicago, and a brother, John Mais of Medford, preceded Mr. Mais in death.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Huber of Racine, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Loden and Mrs. Louis Schmeking of Beaver Dam, Wm. Burmeister and Mr. and Mrs. Felix Weber of Park Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kress, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Kress, Mr. and Mrs. Al Kress and Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Kress of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. F. Niggemann, Mr. and Mrs. Con, Niggemann, Mr. and Mrs. H. Niggemann, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Niggemann, Mr. and Mrs. Regis Niggemann, John Manch, Sister M. Fernando, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bublic, and Mrs. Harold Zielke of Rib Lake, Mrs. John Kauer, Mrs. Peter Fuchs, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Klemm and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bever of Milwaukee and Sister M. Joveta of Stevens Point.
