Dopp, Frank Andy (1929 - 1997)

Minneapolis - Frank Dopp, 68, died November 26, 1997 after a struggle with lung cancer.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 9 at 10 a.m. at Werness Brothers Chapel in Minneapolis with Reverend Dale Swan officiating. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Frank Andy Dopp was born on September 6, 1929 in Bismarck, ND to Frank C. and Melba (Bergeson) Dopp. The family lived in Luverne, and after his father died in 1942, the family moved to Thief River Falls where Frank attended school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. In 1948 he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a radar man on the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge during the Korean War. He was discharged on March 28, 1952.

Frank received a bachelor and masters degree in education from the University of Minnesota. He taught high school and coached football in Abbotsford, WI and Round Lake. He was married to and later divorced from Lorraine Kath. During the last years of his life he was a resident of the Andrews Board and Care Center and the Nicollet Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

He enjoyed visiting with friends, fishing, and playing and watching football and baseball.

Frank is survived by one son, Michael (Debi); one daughter, Terry (Duane) Heier; two grandchildren; one brother, Ernest S. (Virginia) Dopp; several nieces and nephews; an aunt and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Julie; and a cousin.
