Rankel, John (16 May 1884 - 4 Feb. 1952)

John Rankel died Monday at 2:30 P.M. at his home in the town of Colby at the age of 67 years after a three months illness. A rosary was said at the Lulloff Funeral Home Wednesday night. Funeral services are being held this Thursday morning in St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Mr. Rankel was born on May 16, 1884, in Austria and came to the United States in 1906. In 1910, he moved to Waukegan, Ill., where he was employed by the American Steel and Wire Co. He married Pauline Schmuck in Waukegan on October 19, 1913. They lived in Waukegan until 1917 when he purchased a farm in the town of Colby, Wis.

Mr. Rankel is survived by his wife; three sons, John of Detroit, Mich., Walter, at home, and George of the town of Colby; seven daughters, Mrs. Roy (Christine) Hanson of Unity, Mrs. Gus (Pauline) Overbeck of Rothschild, Miss Helen Rankel, Mrs. Carl (Irene) Schulze, Miss Lillian Rankel and Miss Hildegarde Rankel, all of Chicago, Mrs. Richard (Mathilda) Hollman of Colby; 10 grand children; three sisters who live in New York.

Mr. Rankel was a good Christian and a faithful member of St. Mary’s congregation, of a congenial and kindly disposition so friendship’s circle to him was a large one. He will be sadly missed by many.
