Abbotsford, Wis. - Sept. 10, 1953

Abbotsford schools opened with an enrollment of 333 - 156 in the high school and 177 in the grades.

Andrew Schmirler left from Neillsville last week Wednesday morning with the Clark county selectees and was inducted into the service.

Miss Selma Fristad of Colby and Rev. Richard Harrison of Abbotsford, Wis., attended the Westminster Fellowship synod meeting at Camp Anaway August 22 to 29. Rev. Harrison was appointed adult advisor to a committee set up to consider redistricting youth work in Wisconsin.

Mr. and Mrs. Campi of Chicago spent several days at the Noel Schelling home.

C. J. Hirsch moved Saturday to the downstairs apartment in the Charles Scheibe house.

Pvt. Richard Koenig, who had been home on a ten day furlough, left for Newark, N.J., from where he will be sent to Austria. Pvt. Koenig completed a mechanics’ course at Camp Chafee, Ark.

Mrs. Jake Nikolay spent several days at Shawano with her mother-in-law, Mrs. John Nikolay, who is ill.

Sharon Younker, nine-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Younker, suffered a double break in her collarbone when she slipped on the grass while playing at her home.

John Boser of Milwaukee visited his sister, Mrs. Regina Ellenbecker, last week Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Reinhard and son, James, also of Milwaukee, visited several days with Mrs. Ellenbecker.

Norbert Busse of Highwood, Ill., spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Bobbe. Mrs. Busse and son, who spent the week here with her parents, the Bobbes, returned to Highwood with him.

Galen Laack left for Stockton, Calif., having been awarded an athletic scholarship for the College of the Pacific. He is the son of Mrs. Daisy Laack of Abbotsford, Wis.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Emery Schmitt of Abbotsford, route 1, at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital Friday, Sept. 4.

The Ladies’ Home Mission met in the Presbyterian church last week Wednesday with Mrs. C. W. Hoffman and Mrs. R. H. Treat as hostesses. Mrs. Wilbur Kuehnast led devotionals. Plans were made for the annual fall dinner September 30.
