Olson, Mr./Mrs. Fred (50th Anniv. - 26 June 1954)

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olson observed their 50th or golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 26th, at the Cherokee Hall, with open house from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. and dancing in the evening from 9:00 P.M. to 1:00 A.M.

Children all attended. They are Winnifred Matheson of Redondo Beach, Calif., Lawrence Olson of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Grace Feldebruegge of Wanakee, Wis., Byron Olson and Elva Ven Rooy of Colby, Mrs. Edith Reil of Oshkosh and Mrs. Dorothy Totzke of Stratford. One son, Elroy, twin to Edith Reil, passed away at birth. They have 28 grand children and 19 great grand children.

Friends and relatives were here from Madison, Chippewa Falls, La Crosse, Dorchester, Wanakee, Oregon, Oshkosh, Milwaukee, Wausau, Neillsville, Hilbert, Sheboygan, Curtiss, Medford, Abbotsford, Colby, Unity, Spencer, Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, Black River Falls, Ardfordville, Stratford, Ringle, Mosinee, Loyal, Edgar, Owen and Kennan, all in Wisconsin, and from the other following states: Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, California, North Dakota and Washington.

Mrs. Olson, nee Sarah Tuttle, was born in the town of Brighton, near Unity, on April 20, 1884, and always was active in club work and the Red Cross. Mr. Olson was born in Curtiss on February 17, 1882. They were married on the farm home near Colby on June 29th, 1904 and moved to Cherokee on August 29th, 1914. Two of their attendants are still living - Celia (Eder) Firnstahl and Nora (Tuttle) Olson. Two are deceased - Frank Tuttle and Otto Olson.

Mr. Olson owned and operated a saw mill in Cherokee until 1926 and a portable saw mill until 1944. He also operated threshing machines in this area for many years. He served as town chairman and school clerk for 32 years, was on the draft board for nine years, on the county park commission for 14 years and county school committee for seven years.
