Bivans, Phyllis M. (26 OCT 1929 - 21 APR 1941)

Phyllis Mae, daughter of Loran and Muriel Bivans, was born October 26, 1929, and died April 21, 1941 at 9:15 a.m., in Eidsvold (Clark Co., Wis.), west of Thorp. She was the perfect picture of health prior to her illness. Cancer of the lung, beginning with a tumor on the ankle caused by irritation of a blister, and branching into secondary tumors in the lungs, caused her untimely death. She had been ill for two and one-half years. At no time did she ever complain of her lot, but was ever cheerful, sunny and smiling to the very last.

She loved her school work, and five weeks ago wrote her county examination for the sixth grade. It was her last day to be spent in school. She led her class all six years of her school life. She attended school many days when she was hardly able to walk across the room, because she loved school so much.

No matter how ill she was, whenever asked how she felt her answer was the same "Okay!"

She leaves to mourn the loss of sweet young life, her mother Muriel, father Loran, one sister, Laurel, who is nine years of age, her grandmother, Nora P. Bivans of Stanley, two uncles, three aunts and two cousins, Mylon and Donald Halterman of Stanley.

The funeral was held from the Methodist Church at Thorp, Wednesday, April 23, with Rev. James Irish of Thorp and Rev. Loren Shackleton of Stanley, officiating, burial taking place in the East Thorp Cemetery.

The honorary pallbearers were members of the sixth grad class, Richard Heiting, Susan Tomkowiak, Harvey Nelson, Rita and Rose Kaminski and Alvin Arneson. The pallbearers were six of her friends, Anabelle Alger, Colleen, Biddle, Josephine Kaminski, Phyllis Tollefson, Claramae Western and Clara Szatlowicz.
