Schmitt, Marlene Hope (Marriage - 17 Feb. 1954)

Marlene Hope Schmitt, daughter of Genevieve Schmitt of Winnebago, and Don J. Kaiser, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Kaiser of Colby, exchanged marriage vows in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby Wednesday, Feb. 17, Rev. Frank Brickl officiating. The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, John Ohlinger. Mrs. Alios Gabriel played and sang "Ave Maria" during the offeratory. The children’s choir, with Sister M. Clementine at the organ, sang the nuptial mass. After the double-ring ceremony, the bride placed a bouquet of daisies and carnations, hung by streamers on the main altar as the choir sang "Ave Maria" and "To Thee Holy Virgin."

Mary Kunze of Abbotsford, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor and Mrs. Howard Barr of Wausau, sister of the groom, Agnes Apfelbeck of Colby, cousin of the bride, and Kathleen Kaiser, sister of the groom, served as bridesmaids. The groom was attended by Howard Barr, brother-in-law of the groom, as best man, Joe Kremsreiter of Athens, Raymond Schemenauer of Athens and Marvin Schillinger of Marshfield, cousins of the groom. Ushers were Anthony Schillinger of Spencer and Raymond Apfelbeck of Colby, Wis.

The bride was attired in a strapless gown of white nylon net and lace over white satin, waltz length, gathered skirt with lace insert, long sleeve bolero jacket of lace and net with a fingertip lace trimmed veil. Her colonial bouquet consisted of red roses and white carnations with white satin streamers, ferns and silver hearts.

The maid of honor wore a yellow strapless waltz length gown of lace and net over taffeta with a two-tier skirt, lace bolero jacket with matching sweetheart head pieces. The bridesmaids wore identical gowns in blue, orchid and nile green respectively. Their colonial bouquets consisted of carnations to match the formals with multi-colored streamers.

The groom’s mother wore a baby blue poodle cloth suit with a nylon blouse and black accessories. The bride’s mother wore a navy blue suit with pink accessories. Their corsages consisted of red roses and white carnations.

The groom’s attendants wore white and black tuxedos with carnations tinted to the color of the dresses of the girls they stood up with.

A reception was held at the home of the bride which was decorated with yellow, blue, orchid and green streamers, white wedding bells and bouquets of roses.

The couple left on a wedding trip to an undisclosed destination.

Guests here for the wedding were from Fort Recovery, Ohio, Melrose Park, Ill., Medford, Winnebago, Athens, Wausau, Abbotsford, Spencer, Boyd and Chippewa Falls.
