Farning, Maxine Roselyn (Marriage - 1 Oct. 1949)

Miss Maxine Roselyn Farning, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Farning of Colby, became the bride of George Harry Haas, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Haas of Unity, route 1, at a nuptial service at Zion Lutheran church Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She was attired in a gown of slipper satin, styled with a net yoke, and a scalloped hoop skirt. Her finger-tip veil fell from a pearl headed crown. Lace edged the yoke, the skirt and veil. Her shower bouquet consisted of asters and rosebuds attached to white streamers.

Miss Ella Haas, the groom’s sister, was maid of honor and was attired in an azure blue taffeta gown and wore a matching hat. Miss Patricia Reeves of Colby and Mrs. Jerome Schultz of Unity, another sister of the groom, served as bridesmaids, and were gowned in American Beauty satin formals with matching hats. All the bride’s attendants carried shower bouquets of asters.

Attending the groom as best man was the bride’s brother, Max Farning. Other attendants were his brother, William Haas, Jr., and Jerome Schultz.

Karen Samuel of North Fond du Lac, and Arnold Samuel of Iowa City, two cousins of the bride, were flower girl and ring bearer, respectively. Karen wore a gown similar in style to the bride’s.

The bride’s mother wore a black dress with a corsage of roses and the groom’s mother chose a green dress with an aster corsage.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held and a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride’s parents at 4:30 o’clock to 140 guests.

The bride is a graduate of Colby High School and the groom received his education in Stetsonville. The couple now are at home to friends on the groom’s farm near Stetsonville.

Out of town guests at the wedding were from North Fond du Lac, Iowa City, Iowa, Chicago, Ill., Wausau, Marshfield, Dorchester and Abbotsford, Wis.
