Cole, Beder #2 (17 JAN 1857 - 15 DEC 1942)

Beder Allworth Cole was born at Reedsburg, Wis., on Jan. 17th, 1857, and died at his home in Butler (Clark Co., Wis.) of old age complications on Dec. 15th, 1942. He was 85 years, 10 months and 28 days old.

He received his early education at Woodstock, Wis., and later taught school at Ripon. He entered medical school at Iowa City, Iowa, and later graduated from the Henneman Medical School in Chicago.

On May 1st, 1888, he was united in marriage to Martha Cumpston, at Vernon Co., Wis.

After their marriage, they moved to West Lima, Richland Co. He practiced medicine for several eyars and moved to Butler in May 1911. He continued his practice until a few years ago, when poor health would not allow him to continue. Dr. Cole was an upright, honest and courageous man, he was faithful to his patients, sometimes going through the fiercest storms in order that he might administer and relieve the suffering. No task seemed too hard as long as he thought he was performing his duty and aiding the sick. He was superintendent of the Butler Sunday School for several eyars, later teaching the adult Bible Class. He was loyal at all times and lived according to the teachings of his Savior. He also was town chairman and clerk of butler. His wife has lost a kind and devoted husband, his children, a kind and loving father, and the community, an ever faithful and true friend and neighbor. Our sympathy goes out to those left to mourn in their great bereavement.

He is survived by his aged wife, one son, Bird Cole of Thorp, four daughters, Mrs. George (Mary) Steinhaus of Cornell, Mrs. Henry (Sarah) Dittner of Thorp, Mrs. Geo. (Bethel) Beckman of Eau Claire, and Mrs. Leonard (Lois) Johnson of Greenwood, also by 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at his home on Friday, Dec. 18th, at 11 o’clock. Services were conducted by Rev. Norman Erb. Interment took place in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bird Cole, Henry Dittner, George Beckman, George Steinhaus, Leonard Johnson and Chester Daines.

Those from away who attended the funeral of dr. Cole were: Mr. and Mrs. George Beckman and daughter Ethel of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. George Steinhaus and daughter Lois of Cornell, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Johnson and daughter Vera of greenwood, Edward Timmler, Jr. of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Pirl Burrington of Willard, Mr. and Mrs. harry Baehr of Withee, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Tieman and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Keller of Greenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bauer and Mr. and Mrs. Chester Daines of Thorp.
