Knight, Allen D. (25 MAR 1876 - 30 JUN 1942)

Allen Darius Knight, well known farmer and prominent public figure in the community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) passed quietly away at his farm home in the Town of Hoard Tuesday, June 30, 1942, after being confined to his bed for the past sixteen days suffering from a stroke.

He was born on March 25, 1876 in Iowa Co. at Clyde, Wis., and was 66 years, 3 months and 5 days of age at the time of his death.

He came to Owen in 1900 and was employed by the Johns S. Owen Lumber Co., where he worked in the yards. In 1902 he was united in marriage to Helga Botterud. He remained in Owen and was transferred to the Planing mill where he served as foreman for 18 years. He later purchased his father-in-law’s farm in the Town of Hoard where he made his home for the past fifteen years. He was an active member of the cemetery board of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of Curtiss for 12 years and served as supervisor of the Town of Hoard on the Clark County Board for three years. While he was a resident of the city of Owen he was an active member of the Modern Woodmen, Yeoman and Knight of Pythias Lodges.

Surviving his are his wife and a son and a son, Chester, and five daughters, Mrs. John (Pearl) Lokken, Curtiss; Hazel Vesokie and Selma of Chicago; Mrs. Orville (Beatrice) Thorson , Owen; Mrs. Leonard (Irene) Kiviko, Longwood, and eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Markey (Mable) Sturdevant and Mrs. George (Lydia) Carey, and three brothers, Oscar, Eureka, Mont.; Herman, Arena, Wis.; Stephen, Lone Rock, and a half brother, Harold, of Richland Center. Two sons, Erland and Clarence, and two grandchildren have preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 3, from the Norwegian Church at Curtiss at 2 p.m. with the Rev. G.E. Borreson officiating. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Probst, Sever Bjornstad, Gust Becken, Fred Machlett, Cornell Erickson and George Lindau.
