Maki, Hjalmar (18 NOV 1883 - 31 AUG 1941)

Funeral services were conducted from the Finnish Lutheran church, Owen, Tuesday, Sept. 2, for Hjalmar Maki, 57, who passed away at the Legault hospital Sunday after a lingering illness. The Rev. George Autio officiated at the service and interment was made in the Riverside cemetery.

Hjalmar Maki was born on November 18, 1883, in Finland. When a young man of 29 years of age he came to America and settled at De Kalb, Ill., where he worked in the steel industry. On October 13, 1917, he was united in marriage to his wife, Selma. The couple raised a fine family of three sons all of whom are at home. In 1936 Mr. Maki and his family moved to Owen where they settled on a farm south of the city.

Mr. Maki’s health had been failing of late and his condition lately became more serious. He was taken to the Legault hospital where he passed away on Sunday.

He is survived by his family, a sister living at Waukegan, Ill., and a brother, Anton, living in Detroit, Mich.

Pallbearers at the service were John Kivviko, Victor Maki, Henry Puro, Oscar Makkonen, Kauno Niemi, and Gust Sillampa.
