Maki, Nestor (26 OCT 1874 - 22 AUG 1943)

Nestor Maki, a pioneer of the town of Hoard (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away suddenly late Sunday night and was buried Wednesday afternoon from the Finnish Lutheran Church in Owen, Rev. George Autio officiating.

A victim of an apoplectic stroke, he passed away after an illness of about two days in the Owen Hospital.

Mr. Maki came to Owen from Eveleth, Minn. In 1912 and bought a piece of land three miles northeast of Owen, where he hewed a farm out of the solid woods.

Born in Finland on Oct. 26, 174, he came to Lanesville, Mass., in 1902. In 1899 he was united in marriage with Marie Liikonen, and to this union were born six children, Mrs. Eddie J. Maki (Vera), of East Chicago, Ind., Mrs. Eero Makinen (Edna), of East Chicago, Wind., William of Owen, George of Algoma, Robert, serving with the armed forces in North Africa, and Elizabeth of Owen.

Besides the immediate family, he leaves to mourn three grandchildren, two sisters, Hilma Hill of New York City, and Alma Pentila of Finland, and his brother, Oscar Honkamaki of Finland.

Serving as pallbearers at the funeral were Oscar Makkonen, Henry Puro, John Watson, Matt Maki, Charles Kangas, and Victor Maki. Flowers were carried by Martha and Ruth Makkonen, Miriam Puro, Irene Halme, Lilly Maki and Helga Makinen.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Eddie J. Maki, and Mrs. Eero Makinen of East Chicago, Ind., Pvt. Eero Makinen of Indianapolis, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. George Maki of Algoma, and Mrs. Gust Koski and Viola of Wakefield, Mich.

Interment was made in the Riverside Cemetery.
