Duncan, Clara L. (23 DEC 1873 - 8 NOV 1943)

Mrs. M.H. Duncan, 69, mother of Myron G. Duncan, superintendent of the Clark County Asylum, Owen, Wisconsin died at 12:30 o’clock Monday morning, the result of a heart ailment.

Fuenral services were conducted this afternoon from the Ritter & Deutsch Funeral Home, Wausau, at two o’clock, and there were a large number of Owen and Clark County people, friends and relatives, who attended the services.

She was a woman of kindness, and to those who knew her best they liked her best. She was prominent in social circles, as well as being known throughout the state as one of the outstanding matrons of public institutions.

Mrs. Duncan, the former Clara Louis Ringle, was born in Wausau Dec. 23, 1873, and was married at Wausau Oct. 7, 1896, to M.H. Duncan, who preceded her in death March 21, 1936.

Mrs. Duncan was the first matron of the Clark County Asylum, Owen, which position she held for 23 years. She and her husband came to Owen in 1920 at the time of the construction of the Clark County institution. For 10 years prior to coming to Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan had charge as superintendent and matron, respectively, of the Marathon County Asylum in Wausau.

A member of the Order of eastern Star, Marathon Co. Chapter No. 123, a member of the Equitable Reserve Association, and the Maccabees. Mrs. Duncan is survived by her son, Myron G.; by a brother, Valentine Ringle, Wausau, by five sisters, Mrs. Aurora Halder and Mrs. Martha Johnson, both of Wausau; Mrs. Antoinette Jackson, Antigo; Mrs. Pauline Curtiss, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mrs. Hedwig R. Griswold, Owen.
