Voelker, Mr./Mrs. August (50th Anniv. - 8 Apr. 1951)

The First Evangelical and Reformed church of Colby was the scene last Sunday morning for the reconsecration service for the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. August Voelker. Mrs. Margaret W. Puhlmann, representing the congregation at large, and N. L. Dessloch, president of the congregation, escorted Mr. and Mrs. Voelker to church after where Pastor Franz Paul Puhlmann conducted a brief, but, nevertheless, a soul inspiring reconstruction service. Referring to their 50 years of beautiful wedded life, Rev. Puhlmann said that Mr. and Mrs. Voelker have glorified God and that they are a living witness to the sacredness and beauty of a true wedded life. Rev. Puhlmann, furthermore said that the testimony given by Mr. and Mrs. Voelker should serve the greater Colby community as an inspiration and Christian example.

During the reconstruction service, Mrs. Voelker was decorated with a beautiful corsage of deep red carnations and gold ribbon while Mr. Voelker received a boutonniere consisting of a deep red carnation. At the close of the worship service, the bride and groom of 50 years ago took their stations in the vestibule of the church where they received the congratulations of their many friends and fellow church members.

Mr. Voelker was born in Manitowoc county on March 15, 1879, and Mrs. Voelker was born in Sheboygan county on July 1, 1883. They were married on April 8, 1901, in Manitowoc county and came to Colby in 1909 and operated a farm in the town of Colby until 1926 when they moved to the city of Colby, Wis.

They have five children - Elmer, on a farm in the town of Colby; Oscar, on a farm near Cherokee; Marvin, a cheesemaker at Pittsville; Roland, a blacksmith at Abbotsford; Mrs. Chas. (Norma) Flick, on a farm in the town of Colby, Wis.
