Neuhaus, Elmer (16 Mar. 1914 - 21 Oct. 1951)

Elmer Neuhaus, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Neuhaus of Colby, was killed in a car accident just outside the city limits of Petersburg, Virginia, Sunday, Oct. 21. He suffered a fractured skull and left arm and left leg as well as burns on his body and arm. The body was sent to Colby and is reposing at the Lulloff Funeral Home until 11 o’clock this Thursday morning when it will be removed to the First Ev. and Reformed church where funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. F. P. Puhlmann officiating.

Mr. Neuhaus was born in the town of Colby on March 16, 1914, and was a veteran of World War II. At the time of his death, he was employed as correctional officer at the Federal Reformatory in Petersburg, Va., where he was highly respected for his faithful and conscientious performance of his duties as well as his congenial and honest disposition. Mr. Neuhaus was never married.

The deceased was driving alone in his car when he struck a cement abutment late Saturday evening and was killed instantly.

Surviving are his parents, three brothers, Harvey, Harold and Ervin of Plymouth, two sisters, Mrs. Ervin Schwoerer of Manitowoc and Mrs. Howard Pacholke of Colby, Wis.

A military funeral was held last Thursday afternoon for Elmer Neuhaus with Rev. F. P. Puhlmann officiating at the church services at the First Ev. and Reformed church. Internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Francis Zassenhaus, Ed Allmann, Dwight Shelly, Tony Schuh, Norman Augustine and Clyde Hubing.

Out-of-town relatives and friends here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Neuhaus, Mrs. Ed Cammers, Mrs. Hedwig Neuhaus, Gilbert Neuhaus, all of Genoa City, Mrs. Mary Oehldrich, Otto Neuhaus, Erwin, Elmer, Robert and Gilbert Oehldrich, Mrs. Henry Sixel, Mrs. H. H. Bohne, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sohn, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sohn, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Langenhahn, Walter Oehldrich, all of Cleveland, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Oehldrich, Mrs. H. Zill, Mr. and Mrs. Arvin Sprenger, Bernice Sprenger, Caroline Sprenger, Carol Mae Klein, John Rock, Mrs. Dierringer, all of Sheboygan, Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Wagner of Kiel, Mrs. Ralph Koepke of Waldo, Henry Lagenhahn, Mrs. Joe Fessler, August Langenhehn, Mrs. Harvey Schnell, all of School Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Miller, Mrs. Orville Boeldt, all of Elkhart Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Langenhahn and Mrs. Fred Kollath of Marathon, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Luedke, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Luedke and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Luedke, all of Plymouth, and Henry W. Never married according to obit.

Worked in Washington D.C. at time of his death.
