Title: William Thomas Warner - Former Range Detective, City Magistrate Dies

Private services wre held last week for long-time Tombstone resident William Thomas "Pop" Warner.

A former federal range detective, city magistrate, Montana homesteader, and actor, Warner died at his home March 25 (1982) He was 93.

Born June 10, 1889, at Fort Grant, in the Arizona Territory. Warner moved to eastern Montana as a young man, where he received a government homestead. It was during the Montana years that he married the former Rose Marie Gorsegner and claimed he met Wyatt Earp.

Warner recalled those days in an interview two months before his death: "Montana cowboys used to come down here for the winter and they all used to stay at the Santa Rita Hotel in Tucson. One day I decided to go up to Tucson. And there were four Montana cowboys at the Santa Rita. One said, ‘Bill, why don’t you come to Montana for the spring?’ I had been eating sowbelly beans and baking powder biscuits. So I decided to go to Montana with the boys in the spring."

He worked for the National Bison Range in Moiese, Mont., and for the Range Detective Agency riding the range to apprehend rustlers. He once rode a heard of deer from Montana o Redwood City, Calif.

….In addition to riding the range and meting out justice from the magistrate’s office, Warner acted in 29 different movies, including: "Rio Bravo" and "The Lone Ranger."

He retired from his work as ticket taker at the O.K Corral eight years ago. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Warner is survived by his wife, one brother, James Andrews, Octon, Iowa; one daughter, Goldie Rose Warner Magee of San Rafael, Calif.; three sons, William Chris Warner of Vail, Richard James Warner of Irving, Texas, and Rob Thomas Warner of Tombstone.
