Allen Anthony Denk, 2, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Denk, town of Eaton four miles south of Greenwood on Highway 73, died at the Greenwood Clinic Saturday afternoon, Aug. 30th, six hours after being struck by a milk truck in the farmyard at his home.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 10 o’clock Saturday morning when Robert Fisher, 19, Greenwood, employed by the Mech Creamery, also of Greenwood, drove the milk truck into the Denk farmyard to collect the morning milk.

After loading the milk cans and unaware that the boy had come from the house and was standing in front of the truck. Fisher started the truck forward to leave the driveway, but stopped within a few feet when he heard the boy’s cry of distress.

Dismounting, Fisher saw the injured child lying beneath the truck and with the help of the boy’s father, who came running from near the barn when he heard the child cry, they attempted to remove him from beneath but were unable to do so until the truck was backed up a few feet to release his left foot, the shoe of which was pinned by the rear wheel of the truck.

The little boy was rushed to the Greenwood clinic for medical treatment but died of eternal injuries about 4:30 o’clock in the afternoon. An operation performed by Dr. M. D. Overman after the boy’s death revealed no broken bones, but disclosed a punctured liver, congestion in one lung, and other internal complications.

He is survived by his parents, a brother, Romain and sister Caroline, his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Denk and a grandmother Mrs. Anna Lindner and many other relatives. A Holy Angels Mass was read on Tuesday morning at 8:30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rev. J. J. Novak officiating.

He was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Lawrence, James, and Carl Lindner, and Bernard Denk.
