Dyre, Owen B. #2 (4 AUG 1908 - 9 SEP 1941)

Owen Bernard Dyre was born at Buxton, N. Dakota, August 4, 1908. His death, the result of an automobile accident near Redding, California, occurred Sept. 9, 1941. The days of his childhood were spent at Greenwood, where his father, the late Rev. A. B. Dyre was pastor of the Norwegian Lutheran Church for many years. At the age of 18 years Owen enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent three years in Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands. After receiving his honorable discharge from the army he spent a few years working in the states of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Washington, and Montana. During these years he returned home for occasional visits, the last such visit being in 1938. He then went to California where he lived until his death.

His body was sent to Greenwood where it laid in state at the Schiller funeral home until Monday P. M. when short services were conducted at the funeral home at 1:30 followed by services at the Trondhjem Lutheran Church at 2 o’clock. The Rev. M. C. Aaberg officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery.

Pall bearers were Arthur Turnquist, Arthur Hendrickson, Haukon Ystad, Daniel Olson, Verlon Drake, and Frank Trampush. Flower girls were Mrs. Orlando Meyer, Joyce Dyre and Elaine Drake.

Owen is survived by his mother, Mrs. A. B. Dyre, Greenwood; five brothers, Joe and Edgar of Racine, Emil of Grand Forks, N. Dakota, and Kenneth and Oscar of Greenwood; and four sisters, Mrs. Peter Zounis, Sauk Center, Minn., Alma of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. A. G. Drake and Mrs. H. F. Stutte of Loyal. His father, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Besides the Greenwood relatives and friends attending were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dyre and daughter Joyce and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Dyre and children, Racine; Mrs. Peter Zounis, Sauk Center, Minn.; Mr. Alfred Dyre, Boise, Idaho; Mrs. A. G. Drake, son Verlon, and daughter Elaine, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Stutte, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stutte, Mrs. Joe Esselman and Mrs. Rosalind Miller, Loyal; Glen Drake, Wisconsin Rapids; Lee Larson, U.S. Navy; James Engelbretson, Marshfield, and Marliss Conway, Minneapolis.
