Byrne, Terrence Peter Sr. (2 February, 1919 - March 17, 2008)

Terry Byrne, 89, of Neillsville died Monday, March 17, 2008, in the Intensive Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Terrence Peter Byrne was born February 2, 1919, in Oxford, England, the son of Paul and Mary (Cullen) Byrne. They moved to the United States (New Jersey) when Terry was seven years old. He attended school in New Jersey and graduated from Trinity High School and St. Peter’s Prep School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann Austin, May 4, 1940, in New Jersey. They lived in New York and Wisconsin, where they farmed until retiring and selling the farm to their son, Terry, in 1988.

Terry was a state champion boxer and a gold glove boxer in 1935. He enjoyed coon hunting and helping on the farm. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Brett Favre fan. Most of all, though, Terry loved spending time and playing with his grandchildren on the farm.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; nine children, Sharon (Don) Wing of Morris, NY, Patricia (Wayne) Barr of Florida, Eileen (Bert) Smalley of Gilbertsville, NY, Veronica (Larry) Beckwith of Oxford, NY, Kerry (Jon) Papierniak of Thorp, Margaret (Milton) Slowiak of River Falls, Linda (Charles) Schlegelmilch of Neillsville, Annie (Jim) Iallonardo of Prescott, MN, and Terry (Becky) Byrne of Neillsville.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Osborne, and a sister, Patricia Haskins.

A Memorial Service for Terry will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Fr. Woodrow H. Pace will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gesche Funeral Home.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Terry’s family with funeral arrangements.
