Schultz, Gerhardt (20 Apr. 1929 - 26 Sept. 1953)

Gerhardt Schultz, 24, of Willard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schultz, Town of Unity, who suffered a fractured left arm and internal injuries, was killed in a traffic accident Friday near Greenwood when his car and one driven by Odin Wang, Neillsville, collided on County Trunk O southwest of Greenwood near the Cloverleaf cheese factory.

The accident occurred at the intersection of County O and a town road near the factory where Schultz had been. He was a cheeesemaker at the Gorman cheese factory near Willard.

Mr. Wang, driver of the other car, is being treated at the Neillsville Hospital for lacerations and bruises. Both cars were almost completely wrecked in the crash.

Schultz was born April 20, 1929, in the Town of Unity, Clark County, and married Carol Gloff at Arpin October 3, 1948. He had been a cheese maker at Loyal and Arpin before their marriage and since then had been making cheese near Willard.

Surviving are the widow, three children, Sandra, 4, Barbara, 3, and Robert 18 months, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schultz, town of Unity; a brother, Norbert Schultz, town of Unity; and four sisters, Mrs. Ernest Krause, & Miss Bernadine Schultz, Town of Unity; and the Misses Mable and Eunice Schultz of Marshfield.

The deceased attended the Lutheran parochial school and Spencer High School.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Town of Brighton. The Rev. Richard J. Scholz officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

The body reposed at the Swarthout Funeral Home in Spencer from Saturday until Monday noon when it was taken to the church.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Mellenthin, Jack Pickett, Gordon Arndt, Delbert Sloniker, Alfred Spieke and William Chizek.

Flowers were carried by Mrs. Henry Kussel, Mrs. Harold Byer, Miss Marlene Byer, Mrs. Kenneth Mellenthin, Mrs. Gordon Arndt and Mrs. Delbert Sloniker.

Relatives and friends from Arpin, Marshfield, Stratford, Willard, Greenwood, Loyal, Unity, Milwaukee, West Allis, Reedsville, Athens, Eau Claire, Ripon, Neillsville, Granton, Beloit, Laona, Pittsville and Riplinger attended the funeral.
