Donald W. Bluhm, 15 year old Spencer High School student and son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bluhm, Marshfield, Wisconsin, drowned at about 3:30 Sunday afternoon in the Big Eau Pleine River in the Town of Frankfort about 8 miles east of Colby, Wis.
Donald, his brothers, Dennis, 18, Delmar, 16, and Gerald, 13; along with two cousins, Francis Mueller, 14, and Ronald Somolke, 14, both of the Town of Frankfort, had left the Mueller farm, where Donald’s parents were visiting, at about 2:30 to go fishing, and after fishing awhile, started playing in the water with a small battery powered motor boat, when Donald stepped off into about 7 ft. of water. None of the boys knew how to swim.
Funeral services for Donald were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. A. W. Saremba officiating. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.
He was born August 11, 1940 at Wausau and lived there with his parents and family until 1947 when they moved to Spencer. Donald had completed his first year at Spencer High School this spring.
When Mr. and Mrs. Bluhm moved to Marshfield 5 ½ years after coming here, Donald remained to work and live at the Arthur Krohn farm on r-2.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and had been active in FFA activities and basketball in high school.
Surviving besides his parents and above named brothers, are two other brothers, Dale, 14, and James, 11, and a sister, Sharon Mae, at home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bluhm Sr. of Marshfield, and his maternal grandfather, John Mueller of Edgar.
