Grata, Walter "Grandpa" (14 December 1917 - 10 April 2008)

Walter Grata, 90, Granton, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at his home on Maple Street.

Walter Grata was born December 14, 1917, in Chicago, IL, the son of Valentine and Angeline (Satuwa) Grata. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School and then began working as an electrical plater for a couple of companies in Chicago. Later, he worked for the Sunbeam Co. in Chicago as a plater. He married his wife, Evelyn, February 1, 1943. They raised their family in Chicago. Evelyn died in the late 1960s, and Walter retired from Sunbeam at the age of 62. In 1980, he moved to Granton with his family. Grandpa loved his family, his black and white classic movies and collecting coins.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Grata of Granton and Lester Grata of Chicago; four grandchildren, Rick, Jennifer, Tracy and Susan; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; a son, Walter Jr.; and a grandson, Eric.

A Memorial Graveside Service for Walter will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008, at the Windfall Cemetery in Granton.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Walter’s family with Funeral Arrangements.
