Maier, Margaret (17 SEP 1859 - 28 JUL 1944)

Mrs. Margaret Maier, pioneer resident of the vicinity of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away at her home in the town of Worden on Friday, July 28, 1944 at the age of 84. Death was caused by old age.

Margaret Helen Gebhard was born on Sept. 17, 1859 in the city of Charlestown, Wis. On May 29, 1887, she was united in marriage to John Maier in her home town. The couple moved to Thorp that same year and have resided on their farm in the town of Worden ever since.

Left to mourn are her husband, John Maier, Sr., two sons, John Jr., and George of Thorp; four daughters, Sister M. Leonissa, O.S.F., of Longmont, Colo., Sister, M. Regis, O.S.F. of Jefferson, Wis., Mrs. Ray Gregoire (Emma) of Hilbert, Wis., and Mrs. Ray Michel (Pauline) of Denver, Colo., and 18 grandchildren. One daughter, Mary, preceded her in death.

The funeral was held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church on Monday, July 31 at 9:00 a.m., Rev. A.M. Muckerheide officiating. Burial followed at St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers were George and Robert Haas, Anton Baldeschwiler, Nick Benzschawel, Louis Henke and Andrew Heiman.

Relatives who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. George Gebhard, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gebhard of Manitowoc; Mr. and Mrs. John Nicolay and daughter Valeria and Mrs. Margaret Oldenberg of New Holstein; John Gebhard of Hayton Sr. Mary Sebald and Sr. Mary Eustochia of Oshkosh; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gregoire of Hilbert; Mrs. Roy Michel and daughter Cynthia, Sr. Mary Leonissa of Longmont, Colo.; Mrs. Frank Velcheck of Stevens Point; Sr. Mary Regis of Jefferson; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sonnetag of Milwaukee; Frank Sonnentag Sr. of Edson; Mr. and Mrs. Nick Jackels and Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Schmidt of Kaukauna; Rev. W.J. Kordsmeier of Jonesboro, Ark.
