MAY DIE FROM GASOLINE BURNS

Alvin Timerson, a Clark county farmer residing on a farm just west of Spokeville was brought to St. Joseph's Hospital in this city last Sunday evening burned in a horrible condition. His recovery is very doubtful. Timerson recently bought a tractor and Sunday had started out to do some plowing. Owing to the cold weather the engine did not start readily and he prepared a rag torch soaked in gasoline with which to warm the carburetor The torch burned out before the engine would start and Timerson took a five gallon can of gasoline, held it over the warm torch and poured gasoline on it. An explosion followed, the can blowing up and scattering the burning gasoline over him. His clothes being more or less covered with machine oil and grease took fire rapidly and he was soon a mass of flames. His wife ran from the house and attempted to help him and her hands were badly burned. The victim was finally able to extinguish the flames but not before her was terribly burned about his limbs and body and doctors who attend him say that it is about an even chance of recovery. Timerson is a young man of about 24 years of age and married but a short time.

In his efforts to free himself of his burning clothing, Timerson in some manner set fire to one of his barns and this was completely destroyed. Among other things it contained 100 tons of hay and 1000 bushels of grain, so that even though he be fortunate enough to recover from his own injuries, Mr. Timerson's loss will be a very considerable one.
