Felser, Joseph (18 Aug. 1886 - 26 Feb. 1944)

Military funeral services for Joseph Felser, 57, Neillsville were conducted Monday, February 28, at the Jaster Funeral Home, followed by services at the Congregational Church, Rev. George W. Longenecker, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery. Mr. Felser had been ill the past four weeks, death being attributed to a heart ailment. He died Saturday morning, February 26, at his home on West Street.

He was born on August 18, 1886, in Chicago, the son of Joseph and Pauline Felser. His father died when he was a small child. When he was six years of age, he came with is mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. John Schwichtenberg, to Clark County and settled in the town of Lewis, where he grew to manhood, receiving his education in the home school. Later he spent several years in Chicago and on his returned to Clark County, operated a blacksmith shop at Granton, and later worked in the H. P. Ghent blacksmith shop in Neillsville. The last few years he has been custodian of the Neillsville post office.

Mr. Felser was a veteran of World War I, having served in the army from 1915 to 1919, and was a member of the American Legion. On October 19, 1920, he was married at Neillsville to Emma Dudei, who survives him.

He is survived by his sons, Tec. Corp. DeWayne Felser, who has been serving in the southwest Pacific area the past two years, a step-daughter, Elva, Mrs. Ray Dorst, Granton; his mother, Mrs. Pauline Schwichtenberg, Menasha, two brother, Paul Falser, Tripoli, and Bernard Felser, West DePere; and the following half-brothers and sisters, John, Otto and Albert Schwichtenberg, West Bend; Martha, Mrs. A. Holmquist, Detroit; and Helen, Mrs. Ray Bayer, Menasha.

Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral services were: Bernard Fesler, West DePere; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Felser, Tripoli; John Schwichtenberg, West Bend and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bayer, Menasha. The mother, Mrs. Pauline Schwichtenberg, had been here several days previous to her son’s death.

Pallbearers were: J. D. Cummings, Charles Poole, Albert Dahnert, Robert Wagner, D. H. Crothers and Herbert Bardeleben, all members of the American Legion.
