Mazurek, Stanley Sr. (4 APR 1871 - 28 JUL 1945)

Stanley Mazurek Sr., highly respected citizen of the village of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away at his home here of heart disease, early Saturday morning, July 28th, 1945. He was 74 years of age. Services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church Tuesday morning. A complete obituary will be published next week.

Stanley Mazurek Sr., who had reached the age of 74 years, 3 months and 24 days, passed away at his home of a heart ailment on Saturday, July 28th, 1945. The deceased was born in Pozen, Poland on April 4th, 1871. He came to America in 1891 and resided in Chicago, Ill. He was united in marriage to Miss Frances Arendt in 1893, to which union were born five children, Stanley, Anna, Joseph, Walter and John. In 1902 he moved his family to Thorp, Wis., and became engaged in farming.

In 1907 a great misfortune befell him when his beloved wife met her untimely death through an accident. He was confronted with the task of caring for his five small children and the farm chores. He was confronted with the task of caring for his five small children and the farm chores. Farming in the early days was a big task in itself. Being a man of strong character he took it all as his lot and overcame his adversity. Later he was married to Mrs. Mary Wisniewski, who was a loyal wife and a loving mother.

In 1919 he retired and moved to the village, where he resided until his death. He served on the Village Board for 18 years. His daughter Anna preceded him in death in 1921, his son Walter in 1932 and his son Dr. Joseph in 1942.

Stanley Mazurek is survived by his wife Mary Mazurek, sons Stanley and John of Chicago, Ill., step-daughters, Mrs. Louis Zaborowski, Gilman, Wis., and Mrs. Frank Lukasziewicz, Chicago, Ill., daughters-in-law, Mrs. Stanley Mazurek Jr., Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Walter L. Mazurek, Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Joseph S. Mazurek, Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Mrs. Josephine Stajkowski, Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Katazyna Kosmala, Cicero, Ill.; 2 grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Vincent’s Court No. 1338, Catholic Order of Foresters.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31st, 1945, with a Solemn Requiem mass celebrated by Rev. Francis Piekarski. Interment was made in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the Catholic Order of Foresters: John Wojcik, Frank Hoffman, Peter Zukowski, Ray Baldeschwiler, Ray Ketterhagen and George Haas.
