Baures, Henry & Anna (Gold - 8 OCT 1945)
On Monday, Oct. 8, 1945, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baures of Thorp, Clark Co., Wis., celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in the presence of their many relatives and friends.
The day began with everyone attending Mass at St. Bernard’s Church and Father A. Muckerheide officiating at the altar. After the blessing of the couple, the pastor very beautifully reminisced the past fifty years of their married life.
At high noon the entire group gathered at the American Legion Hall, which was beautifully decorated in gold and purple, and where a sumptuous two-course dinner was served to about 150 guests. Mrs. F. Smitke was in charge of the dinner, with Mrs. O. Boie, Mrs. O. Ramberg and Mrs. G. Haas assisting. The grandchildren served at the tables. The wedding table was decorated with yellow chrysanthemums and a four-tier bride’s cake which was ornamented in gold trimmings and topped with a bride and groom. Mrs. Lena Doelle Gleason, the acting bridesmaid of fifty years ago, was seated at the table beside the bride. Father Muckerheide graciously toasted the bride and groom at the end of the meal.
In the afternoon the guests made merry with singing, dancing and pleasant conversation. At six o’clock the guests enjoyed a lunch in the basement of the hall.
In the evening many friends from the community called to extend their congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Baures and spent the remaining of the evening in dancing. The music was furnished by the Nightingales.
Mr. and Mrs. Baures were the recipients of many beautiful gifts and cards from their host of friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baures were married in the St. Joseph’s Church at Glencoe, Wis., on Oct. 8th, 1895, with Rev. Birsner officiating. Miss Lena Doeller, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid, while Mr. John Bergen acted as groomsman. The wedding reception was held at the bride’s home.
Mr. and Mrs. Baures have reared a fine family of nine children, including Mrs. Robert Haas and Mrs. Casper Haas of Thorp, Wis., Mrs. Carl A. Carlson and Mrs. John Felker of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Emil Carlson and Walter Baures of Los Angeles, Calif., Arthur Baures of Fairchild, Wis., Technical Sgt. Edward Baures of Kessler Field, Miss., and Firmin Baures who resides with his parents on the farm near Thorp, which they have occupied the past 31 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Baures also have 38 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
