Milton, Lewis J. (? - 8 Aug. 1944)

MEMORIAL SERVICES HELD FOR LT. LEWIS J. MILTON

A memorial service for Lt. Lewis J. Milton, who was killed in auction on August 8, was held in the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church on Sunday morning, September 3, in connection with the regular service.

The service began with a prelude "Near the Cross," played by Mrs. Marian Zaske. After the invocation and Gloria Patri the congregation sang "America." The scripture lesson was read from Psalm 91. This psalm was a favorite with Lewis. Following the prayer, the men’s chorus sang "Lead Kindly Light."

The sermon text was the 23rd Psalm, which is also known as the Shepherds’ psalm. Following the men’s chorus sang, "Jesus, I Live to Thee."

The last hymn sung by the congregation was "He Leadeth Me." The hymn was used because it brings out the thought that Jesus leads us both in life and in death.

After the benediction and the doxology, Robert Scott blew "taps" on his cornet.

There were many beautiful flowers decorating the altar.

Out of town relatives who were here to attend the memorial services were: Elmo Milton, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Johnson, Mrs. Susie Solie and Delmar Johnson, Eau Claire; Mrs. Sture Engstrom and son, Bruce, Geneva, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Molepske and son, and Miss Margaret Miller, Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Erie Milton, Minneapolis; and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Switzenberg and daughter, Ann, Barron.
