Marking, Margaret J. (12 JUN 1945)

Miss Margaret Jeanette Marking, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Marking, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of Everett R. Compton, Reedsburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Compton of Bayfield, in a double ring ceremony which took place in the English Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, La Crosse, June 12, 1945, at high noon. Palms, candelabra and bouquets of white flowers decorated the altar before which the vows were read by the Rev. Harold Stoffell. Miss Theresa Marking of Beloit playing the "Bridal Chorus" from Lohengrin as the Processional and Mendelssohn’s "Wedding March" as the recessional, was the organist. Miss Harriet Marking, Madison, sang "Always", "Until" and "Prayer Perfect."

Attendants were Miss Francis Marking, Reedsburg, a sister of the bride, as maid of honor; Miss Eleanor Elleffson, Rice Lake, bridesmaid, and Mrs. George Clarke, La Crosse, also a sister of the bride, matron of honor.

Lloyd Gilberts, Hudson, attended the groom. Don Johannes, Reedsburg, and Rueben Powers, Prairie du Chien were ushers.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in white mousseline de soie frock, styled with a train and carried a colonial bouquet and a testament. Her fingertip veil of illusion was caught to a tiara of pearls and she wore a pearl necklas.

All three of the bride’s attendants wore sheer frocks and carried colonial bouquets. Miss Marking wore yellow; Miss Elleffson, pink, and Mrs. Clark, aqua.

Viewing her daughter’s wedding was Mrs. Marking in an aqua ensemble and wearing a corsage of pink carnations.

After the ceremony, dinner was held at the Linker Hotel and later a reception at the home of Mrs. George Clarke.

Both the bride and groom taught at Reedsburg, where, after June 20, they will make their home. They are now on a wedding trip to New York and Washington, D.C. Mrs. Compton is a graduate of La Crosse State Teachers College and her husband is a graduate of River Falls State Teachers College. He also has taken specialized training in radar at St. Louis University.

For traveling the bride wore a lime colored suit with white accessories and a corsage of Talisman roses.
