Mattson, Emma Linda (17 April 1884 - 30 Nov. 1944)

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Mattson, aged 60 years, of Neillsville, were conducted Saturday morning, December 2, at 9:30 at the Schiller-Terhune Funeral home and at 10 o’clock at the Congregational Church, with the Rev. George W. Longenecker, pastor of the church, officiating. The body was taken to Algonquin, Ill., where services were conducted on Sunday afternoon and where burial was made in the family lot.

Mrs. Mattson died at her home in Neillsville on November 30 after a lingering illness. She had been in failing health for about eight years, and had been confined to her bed since suffering a broken left in a fall at her home last summer.

Emma Linda Jayne, daughter of George and Elizabeth Jayne, was born April 17, 1884, at Oak Glen, Ill.; where much of her early life was spent. After graduating from the Algonquin, Ill., high school, she worked in Chicago as a cashier for several years. She was united in marriage to Emil J. Mattson on September 10, 1906, in St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church, Chicago. They resided at Algonquin, Ill.; for seven years, and after a few years, in which they traveled, they came to Neillsville in 1916, where they have since resided.

Mrs. Mattson was a faithful attendant at the Congregational church and a conscientious worker in the various church organizations. Even during her late illness, she retrained a keen interest in the various activities of the church. She was also an active member of the Women’s Relief Corps. She was a good neighbor and friend, and her cheery smile and joyous laughter will be missed among her many friends.

She is survived by her husband, her son, John, and two grandchildren, Donald and Patricia Mattson, all of Neillsville. Her parents and ten brothers and sister preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were Harry Wasserberger, Leo Wasserberger, Otto Zaeske, Fred Bullard, Arthur Imig, and David Thayer. Mr. Mattson, Mr. and Mrs. John Mattson and Donald and Patricia went to Algonquin as the funeral party. Lyle Helm, civilian inspector at Camp McCoy, a nephew of the deceased, also attended.
