Schultz, Oscar M. (28 OCT 1880 - 13 FEB 1904)

Oscar Martin Schultz of Dells Dam (Clark Co., Wis.), was killed last Saturday by a falling tree in Harrison Lowery’s camp on the Eau Claire River, in Mentor Township. His uncle, John Leopold, brought the body here the same day, a drive of thirty miles, arriving at 8:30 p.m. Later it was taken to the Amos barman home, owing to the illness of Mrs. Schultz, his mother. The funeral was held Tuesday from the Dells Dam Church, conducted by Rev. Griffis, and interment in Levis Cemetery.

He had cut down a pine tree that was about a foot through at the butt and as it fell its weight came upon a stub branch ten or twelve feet from the butt end, this throwing the butt in the air, and as the top crashed to the ground the butt flew up and to one side, striking the young man on the left side of the head as he stood watching the tree fall, crushing in the head and face, and causing instant death.

Oscar was 24 years, 3 months and 16 days old. He was a young man whom all held in high esteem, and whose demise brings sorrow to many hearts.
