Shupe, Shirley Jean (Marriage - 7 Jan. 1956)

Miss Shirley Jean Shupe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Shupe of Spencer, and Gilbert Allen Waldhart, son of Mrs. William C. Waldhart of Colby, exchanged marriage vows in the Methodist church in Spencer, Rev. Harvey Schall reading the marriage ceremony, Saturday.

The church was decorated with white gladioli and pompoms and lighted with candles for the 4:30 p.m. service. Wedding music was played on the organ by Janice Nielson, and "Because" and "The Lord’s Prayer" were presented by Mrs. Norman Kasper, both musicians being residents of Spencer.

As she entered the church on her father’s arm, the bride was seen in a floor-length dress of an all-over lace design. Hearts formed of iridescent sequins and pearls followed the scoop neckline of the bodice, and a scalloped hemline over tight pleated tulle circled her skirt. To hold her finger-tip veil, she wore a pillbox hat adorned with pearls and sequins.

Her bouquet was a cascade arrangement of Phalanopsis orchids, stephanotis, swansonia and ivy.

As the chief bridal attendant, the bride named her cousin, Donna Mae Baird of Milwaukee, while a brother of the bride, Bruce Shupe of Spencer attended as best man. Other attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Glasnap of Appleton.

Identical dresses in emerald green were worn by the bride’s attendants, whose flowers were white gladioli, garnet roses and ivy arranged in a cascade. Crystalette boleros were worn over bodices of the same material in their gowns, and net was draped over taffeta in their skirts.

William and Wallace Waldhart, brothers of the bridegroom, from Appleton and Colby, seated the guests, who included out-of-town people from Stanley, Greenwood, Loyal, Neillsville, Appleton, Menasha, Berlin, Colby, Abbotsford, Medford, Wausau, Marathon City and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

For the wedding and 6 o’clock supper in the church parlors, Mrs. Shupe donned a black suit and pink accessories, with white pompoms and pink roses in her corsage as a floral accent. Mrs. Waldhart’s choice of costume was a brown suit, highlighted with a corsage of white and yellow pompoms.

The new Mrs. Waldhart, who received her education in the Spencer schools, is also a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Marshfield. Her husband was educated at Colby, Wis.

The couple left on a wedding trip through several southern states, and, on their return will make their home in Appleton where the groom is employed at Krambo’s.
