McConnell, James (19 June 1879 - 13 January 1948)

Funeral services for James McConnell, Sr., 68, were held last Thursday from the Grace Methodist Church in Greenwood. Burial was made in the Greenwood cemetery. He died on Tuesday at his home six miles southwest of Greenwood. Death was due to cancer.

Mr. McConnell was born on June 19, 1879, in the Town of Eaton. His first marriage was to Anna Seder, who died 29 years ago in Montana. After her death he moved back to the Town of Eaton, and in 1921 was married to Charlotte Cox. She died in 1936. In 1941, he was married to Mrs. Bessie Truax, who survives.

Soon after his last marriage Mr. McConnell moved to Marshfield, where he was employed in a brewery. He returned to the farm near Greenwood after he sustained a fractured leg.

Surviving besides his widow are a son, James, Jr., Greenwood; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Gertrude) Rubinsky, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Harold (Bernice) Langley, Council Bluffs, Ia.; five grandchildren and five step-children, Allen and Palmer Truax of Greenwood; Mrs. Joseph Bizjak of Willard; and Dorothy of Marshfield. A brother, Robert, Greenwood, and two sisters, Mrs. Free Christie, Neillsville, and Mrs. Walter Jordan, state of Washington, also survive.

Those from Neillsville who attended funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Free Christie, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Christie, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Christie, and Mr. and Mrs. John Christie. Accompanying them were Mrs. Tony Schullo and children and Mrs. Kenneth Swanson of St. Paul, who were visiting here.

Pallbearers were six nephews of Mr. McConnell: Eugene, Ernest and John Christie of Neillsville, Arthur Christie of Greenwood, Roy McConnell of Mauston and Clayton McConnell of Ellsworth.
