Laabs, Frederick W. (6 March 1881 - 6 March 1948)

Funeral services for F. W. Laabs, 67, lifelong resident of Curtiss, were held on Tuesday afternoon, March 9, from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Curtiss. The Rev. G. Borreson officiated. Burial was made in the Pine Hill Cemetery at Curtiss. He died on Saturday at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital, where he had been a patient since January 28.

Mr. Laabs was born in the Town of Green Grove, March 6, 1881. He was married there in 1901 to Hattie Glenzer, who preceded him in death in 1943. In December of 1944, he married Mrs. Lillie Botterud at Livingston, Mont.

Shortly after his first marriage, Mr. Laabs took a course in cheesemaking at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was an instructor there for a short time and then returned to Curtiss, where he started in the cheesemaking business.

He was associated with the Kraft Cheese Company of Milan, was vice-president of the Curtiss State Bank, and served on the school and village boards at various times. Two years ago he retired from active business.

He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs. George Pease of Wisconsin Rapids, seven sons, Herman F., Miami, Okla.; Glenzer C., Concordia, Mo.; Orville A., Milan; Bernard M., Abbotsford; and Arthur T., Harold W., and Fred W. Laabs, Jr., all of Curtiss.

Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and five brothers, Emil, and Arthur of Colby, William of Oshkosh, Albert of Owen, and Ferdinand of Pocatello, Id.
