Dr. Michael H. Melcher

THORP -- Dr. Michael H. Melcher, 66, of Thorp, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp, with burial in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary service Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday, both at the church.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

THORP -- Dr. Michael H. Melcher, 86, of Thorp died Aug. 18, 2008, at his home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary service, Thursday, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the church.

Michael was born Nov. 9, 1941, at Marshalltown, Iowa, to Karl and Gertrude (Collins) Melcher. He retired in 2007 after a 43-year career as an optometrist at his Thorp practice, Dr. Melcher & Sprague, OD, and from New Vista Eyecare in Chippewa Falls.

Survivors are his wife, Patricia, whom he married in 1963; three daughters, Lisa, Eau Claire, Sheila, St. Louis Park., Minn., and Krista (Scott) Flanagan, Oregon, Wis.; and two grandchildren.
