Pepper, Betty (Marriage - 5 June 1948)

Miss Betty Pepper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Pepper of Neillsville, became the bride of Leon Kapfer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer of Granton, R3, at a candlelight service Saturday at the Neillsville Methodist Church, with the Rev. Floyd Fahlgren officiating.

The church was decorated with spring flowers for the single-ring ceremony. Immediate relatives and close friends made up the guests. The bride wore a gown with a white satin bodice and full net overskirt and train, trimmed with tailored white ribbon bows. She had made her own finger-tip veil, woven in a lovely flower motif. She carried red roses and lilies of he valley.

The bride’s sister, Miss Jane Pepper, was maid of honor. She was dressed in pale pink and carried roses and sweet peas. Miss Kathleen Hall of Wisconsin Rapids was bridesmaid, and wore a matching gown of yellow and a duplicate bouquet. Here little sister, Karen Hall, was flower girl, and young Master Armand Borde, a cousin of the bride, was ring bearer. Ernest Kissling of Granton served as bestman, and the other attendant was Jimmy Schultz of Alma Center, a cousin of the groom.

Hazel Millard sang "Because," accompanied by Phyllis Fahlgren at the piano.

After the wedding a reception for about 75 guests was held in the church basement, which was decorated in yellow and white for the occasion. A dance was held in the Levis town hall later in the evening.

The bride graduated from Neillsville High School and attended Eau Claire State Teacher’s College. She plans to teach this fall in the Popular Grove School near Lynn. The groom graduated from Granton High School and is employed as a truck driver.

Out-of-town guests at the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Schultz, uncle and aunt of the groom, of Alma Center; Mrs. Harry Cooper, also of Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kapfer, uncle and aunt of the groom, and daughters, Darlene and Barbara, of West Bend; the Misses Elsie and Alice Castad, Mr. Robert Berg and Mr. Donovan Steig, all of Osseo; the Misses Clara Mae Larson and Maxine Mattison, of Bruce; Miss Rachel McKitrick of New Auburn; Dr. and Mrs. Langworthy of Black River Falls; Mrs. Leland Bandelow, an aunt of the bride, and daughters, Nelva and Charlene of Menomonie: Mr. and Mrs. Gaines Hall and family of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Summers and family of Chippewa Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Timmler of Loyal.

News Notes: Miss Betty Pepper and her fiancé, Leon Kapfer, were feted at a bridal shower given Thursday evening in the Washburn town hall by Mr. Kapfer’s mother, Mrs. Elmer Kapfer, of Cannonville, and his aunt, Mrs. Jess Schultz of Alma Center. About 130 guests attended the party, brining gifts for the young couple. Refreshments were served and an evening of informal gaiety was enjoyed.
