Wage, John A. #2 (28 JAN 1885 - 31 JAN 1905)

John A. Wage died Tuesday morning, Jan. 31, 1905, of tuberculosis, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Wage, age 20 years and 3 days, having been born Jan. 28, 1885. He sat up in bed the day before he died and read the newspapers for an hour.

The funeral will be held at the M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. G. W. Campbell, at 1 p.m. today (Thursday), the interment to be in the Neillsville Cemetery. High school was let out for half a day to attend.

For the past year or two the great white scourge had had its hand upon this beloved young man. He was brave under the fatal affliction, and cheerful always. He made a heroic effort to graduate from the high school, but was compelled to drop from the class over a year ago. For about two years he was employed in the Times office, and was bright, energetic and ambitious, but had to quit, his health requiring it. It was then he re-entered school. He was a great lover of books, and read incessantly. He was employed at the telephone exchange for a time, and was very accommodating. He was a football and baseball enthusiast - in fact, enjoyed life so keenly that his passing away seems doubly hard.

In all he undertook he put in the keenest enthusiasm and all the energy he was master of. His willingness to push tings along made him a prime favorite among his schoolmates, and his sunny disposition and a happy way he had of seeing the best side of things won him many friends. His death is sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends, both young and old, who will bear with them through life’s pleasant memories of the honest, cheery, keenly intellectual boy.
