Foster, Leo & Martha (Silver Anniversary 1923 - 1948)

Quite a Celebration for Leo and Martha Foster

Leo and Martha Foster celebrated their silver wedding anniversary Saturday with a full day, which opened at 9:00 in the morning with a special nuptial Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, read by the Rev. Fr. John Pritzl, and progressed through a family luncheon at Murphy’s, to an open house at their cottage on Black River from 3:00 p.m. until nearly midnight.

Leo’s sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Bartlett, came from Chicago for the occasion. Other out-of-towners were Miss Joan Gallagher of Savannah, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. George Phillips of Dakota, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. William Dunn, Dr. and Mrs. Philip Hutson and daughter, Gwen, Mr. and Mrs. Art Sheel and Miss Dorothy May Kelly, all of La Crosse. Miss Hutson is the fiancée of Jack, the Fosters’ son. All of the aforementioned stayed overnight, leaving Neillsville on Sunday.

One feature of the occasion was a dummy newspaper which Jack had had printed in Chicago - a full page spread with three inch headlines: "Leo Fosters Wed 25 Years: No Hits, No Runs, One Heir".
