Karl, Arnold E. (3 September 1915 - 5 September 2008)

Arnold E. Karl, 93, of Neillsville, died Friday, September 5, 2008, at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville.

Arnold was born September 3, 1915, in Pierce County, the son of Joseph and Agnes (Block) Karl. He attended school at the Silver Crest School. Arnold was united in marriage June 7, 1952, to Gladys Ludwig. He worked for the B&F Machine Shop for nine and one-half years and then went on his own doing carpentry and roofing work. He loved deer hunting and beaver trapping and hadn’t missed a season since 1930 until recently when his health deteriorated. He was a member of the Granton Sportsman’s Club and the Pine Valley Lutheran Church, serving on the church council.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Neillsville; son, Walter (Cheryl) Karl of Neillsville, and their children, Amanda, Nickolas and Amy; daughter, Judith (Jim) Sterba of La Crosse, and their children, Michelle (Paul) Potter and Pamela (Dave) Chapman; son, Alan (Chris) Ludwig of Hudson, and their children, Melissa (Shawn) Sundreal and David (Shanda) Ludwig of Altoona; and daughter, Carol (Don) Schrader of Holmen, and their children, Roxanne (Loren) Whitehead and Jolene Schrader. Arnold is also survived by six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beverly Drescher; and brothers, Brookes Karl, Clifford Karl, Rufus Karl and Richard Karl.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday September 10, 2008, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor Michael Herdt of the United Methodist Church in Loyal will officiate. Music will be provided by Virginia Karnitz, organist. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.

Casketbearers include Ted Janke, Charlie Janke, Wayne Opelt, Tom Kopp, Terry Sischo and Bob Kalsow.

The Gesche Funeral Home of Neillsville is assisting Arnold’s family with arrangements.
