Van Dyk, Delores Ann (21 February 1935 - 17 August 2013)

Delores Van Dyk, 78, of Chili died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at the House of he Dove in Marshfield.

Delores Ann De Berg was born February 21, 1935, at home in Little Rock, IA, the daughter of Tom and Grace (Kruse) De Berg. She attended Little Rock High School and played basketball and played in the band. While going to high school, she worked in a café, babysat and cleaned house. She graduated from Little Rock High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to John Van Dyk Aug. 12, 1954, at the First Reform Church in Melvin, Ia. by the Reverend John Smith. They farmed in Worthington, MN, Rushmore, MN, May City, IA, and in 1964 they moved to Chili to farm. In 1964, Delores began working at the Norwood Health Center in Marshfield. She retired in 1989 due to health problems.

Delores was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Chili. She enjoyed knitting, bingo, camping, video games, and roller skating, when she and John were younger, fishing, traveling and playing cards. Delores and John were part of 20 couples who got together to play sheepshead.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Dawn Mason of Eau Claire, Becky Knutson of Eau Claire, Tanya Hale of Neillsville, Crystal Rakestraw of Chili, and Allen-John Jackson of Boyd; great-grandchildren , Brianna, Dominque, Austin, Jonathon, Ashley, Jameson and Jayden; a sister, Margaret Calsbeck of Sibley, IA; and a sister-in-law, Betty De Berg of Rock Rapids, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Diane Rakestraw; a son, Jim Van Dyk; two great-grandchildren, Jason and Desiree; three sisters, Grace, Joann and Gertrude; a brother, Donald; and her parents.

Funeral services for Delores were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Chili, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Sally Rendell officiated. Music was provided by Connie Koopman, pianist. Interment was in the Immanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Casketbearers were family and friends.
