Dudei, Mary (1873 - 16 November 1948)

Mrs. Mary Dudei, 75, former Neillsville resident who has been living recently in Berlin, died November 16 (1948) in the Berlin hospital. The body was brought to Neillsville for burial.

Funeral services took place at 1:30 Friday at the Georgas Funeral Home and at 2 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Adolph Schumann of Globe as officiating clergyman. Burial took place in the Globe Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Henry, Harold and George Thoma, Melvin Appleyard, Raymond Kalsow and Gerhardt Scheel. Flower ladies were Irene and Elvira Thoma, Louise Scheel, Marian Appleyard and Mrs. Harold Thoma.

Those who came from out of town to attend the services included: Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dudei and daughter, of Rice Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dudei, Art Thoma, Asa Thoma, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Dudei and family, Mrs. Lyle Schwanke and family, Miss Janet Dudei, all of Berlin; Mrs. Anna May, Mr. and Mrs. George Koeroner, of St. Paul; Mr. Louie Scheel of Pestigo, Minn.; Mr. Ervin Gall of Owen; and Mr. Bruno Dudei and son, Granton.

Mrs. Dudei was born Mary Scheel in Heidekasek, Germany, in 1873. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Scheel. Her mother was Anna Quast Scheel. At the age of nine she came to the United States with her family, and they settled on a farm in the Town of Weston and Seif. She was a resident of Clark County from then until her removal to Berlin this past year.

In 1891 she married August Dudei of Weston, who died in 1923. The couple had three children, one of whom, Walter, died in infancy. The other two, Arnold, of Berlin, and Ben, of Rice Lake, survive their mother. She is also survived by one brother, Louis Scheel, of Pestigo, Minn.; three sisters: Mrs. Theodore (Ida) Kalsow of Neillsville; Mrs. Clara Korn of Seward, Nebr.; and Mrs. William (Anna) May of St. Paul; and by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two brothers and four sisters predeceased Mrs. Dudei.
