Morse, Alonzo (14 June 1875 - 10 January 1949)

Alonzo Morse, 72, died at the home of a daughter on Monday, January 10, (1949), at 3:40 a.m. He had been in failing health the past 10 years.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 1:30 from the Georgas Funeral Home and at 2 o’clock from the Christie Methodist Church. Burial was made in the Weston Cemetery. Rev. Virgil Nulton conducted the services.

Mr. Morse was born in the Town of Weston June 14, 1875. He received his education in the rural schools there, and worked for his father on the farm for several years.

On March 11, 1902, he was married to Anna Heintz at Winona, Minn. They located on a farm in Weston, where they lived for some time. They resided on various farms in that township for 47 years. Due to ill health Mr. Morse retired 10 years ago and moved into Neillsville. Two years ago they moved into the home of a daughter and son-in-law in Pine Valley, where they remained until his death.

Mr. Morse is survived by his wife Anna, five daughters and three sons, 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The children are: Paul of Paris, Ill.; Mrs. Fred (Mable) Buchholz, Christie; Ernest, Pine Valley; Mrs. George (Gertrude) Bannach, Marshfield; Lester, Greenwood; Mrs. William (Josephine) Strangfeld, Pine Valley; Mrs. Darrell (Viola) Truax, Greenwood; and Mrs. Leon (Cecelia) West, Orchards, Wash.

Surviving also are three sisters: Mrs. Bert (Mae) Sischo, Salem, Ore.; Mrs. Grace West, Neillsville; Mrs. Walter (Allie) Kelch, Waterloo, N.Y.

Pallbearers at the Alonzo Morse rites last week were C. C. Kroll, Dan Timerson, Bruce Armitage, Walter Boone, Julius Bohnsack and Nick Schaefer.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harder and Mrs. George Schaefer sang, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "God Will Take Care of You," accompanied by Mis Verna Schaefer at the organ.

Those from out-of-town who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Morse and Mr. and Mrs. C. Hess of Paris, Ill.; Miss Dorothy Morse and Miss LaVerne Grey of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. D. Truax and Mr. and Mrs. George Bannach, Marshfield; (balance of obit was missing).
