Stahl, Phoebe (11 Aug 1836 – 22 Feb 1907)

Mrs. Wm. Stahl Dies of Heart Failure Upon Receipt of Bad News

Mrs. Phoebe Stahl, one of the oldest residents of Fairchild, passed away last Friday at Ludington where she has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Edwin Eaton, this winter. Her death resulted from heart failure, due to a shock on receiving a message of the death of her sister.

Mrs. Stahl was born near Manlius Center, Onondaga County, NY., Aug. 11, 1836, and therefore in her 71st year. She came to Fairchild and married Mr. Wm. Stahl in 1863. Her former husband’s name was Wells. A son by this marriage survives and was present at the funeral service. By her second marriage, she had seven children, one son and six daughters, three of whom have passed on before. Her husband, now very feeble, son and three daughters, together with a sister and brother remain to mourn the loss of a loving wife, mother and sister.

The remains were brought to Fairchild on Monday and services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church, conducted by the pastor. Mrs. W. Foster and the Misses Hazelton, Fallett and Bradner furnished the music.

The church was well filled with the neighbors and friends of the deceased who came to pay the last tribute of respect to one they had known so long. Mrs. Stahl had been a long time member of the M.E. church and will be sincerely missed by those with whom she labored. Messrs. C.A. Whipple, A. Cole, D.S. Livermore and J. Klang officiated as pall bearers.
