Dainton, Etta (1862 – 9 May 1907)

Mrs. John Dainton Passes Away at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Saturday

It becomes our painful task to record the death of one of Fairchild’s former residents, Mrs. Etta Dainton, who passed away May 9, 1907 at Mercy hospital Chicago, five days after undergoing a critical surgical operation.

She was born in Oconomowoc, Waukesha Co., Wis. 1862 and lived there until 14 years of age when she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Ballard to Fairchild, Wis.

On October 1, 1884 she was married to John Dainton and for eight years made her home in Waukesha, Wis. From there she moved to Chicago where she was living at the time of her demise.

She had been in poor health for some time, but until her removal to the hospital was not thought especially dangerous. She sank rapidly and as Thursday’s sun was setting on earth she opened her eyes in the bright and eternal light of heaven.

She never complained of her suffering and her death came as a great shock to her many friends. She always looked on the bright side of life and thus made happy and illuminated the lives of her friends and those with whom she came in contact.

The remains were brought to Fairchild Sunday morning May 12, and the funeral held from the Ballard home in the afternoon, the Rev. F.J. Bryan speaking very appropriately from the text Ps. 138:7.

The choir, composed of Dr. and Mrs. Frisbie, John Norris and Lotta Hazelton, sang two beautiful selections: “Asleep in Jesus” and “Why Do We Mourn for Dying Friends”. The floral tokens were many and beautiful. A large concourse of people followed the remains to the grave and the many tokens of love and respect manifested indicated the honor and esteem in which the deceased was held by the people. The pall bearers were W.F. Hood, O.A. Fallett, C.C. Calkins, John Anderson and C.A. Whipple.

Besides her husband, John Dainton, and two children, John and Madge, the deceased leaves to mourn her loss her aged father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Ballard, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Campbell and Mrs. H.A. Closser of Fairchild; a brother, Mr. William Ballard of Milwaukee, and a sister, Mrs. Lida McLyman of Duluth, Wis. The sympathy of the entire community is with the bereaved ones.
