Swarthout, Eva #2 (5 SEP 1857 - 24 APR 1939)

Mrs. Eva M. Swarthout, 81, died at 4 o’clock Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lottie E. Brown of Spencer. Death was caused by old age complications, and for the past two months she had been confined to her bed.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Swarthout Funeral Home. The Rev. George R. Carver, Marshfield, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery beside her husband. E. L. Swarthout, who preceded her in death 25 years ago.

Mrs. Swarthout, nee Eva Marion Hugoboom, daughter of the late Sullivan and Amelia Hugoboom, was born in Hancock Sept. 5, 1857.

Later she moved with her parents to Oshkosh where her father was a member of the police force. After the Oshkosh fired, her parents moved to Dorchester and operated a hotel there. She was musically included, and laso taught school before her marriage to E. L. Swarthout, Jan. 26, 1880.

After her marriage she lived in Dorchester and Colby, and when her husband died she moved to Abbotsford, Wis. Mrs. Swarthout lived for many years in Abbotsford in the home just west of the O. & N. Lumber co. For the past five years she had been making her home with her daughter. Mrs. Swarthout had been actively engaged in the Methodist Episcopal Church activities, and the Sunday school.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Lottie E. Brown, Spencer; two sons, Joseph Swarthout of Milwaukee, and Blaine Swarthout of Spencer, a brother, R. W. Hugoboom of Dorchester, and ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
