Opelt, Dorothy M. #2 (22 AUG 1919 - 30 AUG 2008)

Dorothy M. Opelt, 89, Neillsville, died on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at the Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville. The Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville. The celebrant was the Rev. Woodrow H. Pace. Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Neillsville. Casket bearers were her grandchildren, David Eisentraut, Jon Herbel, Brad Opelt, Mike Gurney, Ben Opelt, Isaac Opelt, Jeffrey Opelt and Jill Opelt.

Dorothy Mary Langreck was born at home on Aug. 22, 1919, in Neillsville, to Henry and Mary (nee Mueller) Langreck. She attended the Reed School, On Sept. 26, 1944, she married Robert Opelt, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville. They farmed for many years in the town of Pine Valley and raised eight children. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW) serving all offices and named a 2006 Senior Honoree. She loved animals, especially cats and chickens, working in the barn and farm work, flowers and gardening, fishing, cooking, and baking pies.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; children, Pat (David) Eisentraut, Neillsville, Jerry (Carol) Opelt, Neillsville, Kathy (Don) Herbel, Green Bay, Dennis (Jean) Opelt, Depere, Janet (Galen) Gurney, Neillsville, Tom Opelt, Neillsville; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; siblings. Marie Resong, Neillsville, Harold (Dorothy) Langreck, Neillsville, Sister Niva Langreck, Milwaukee, Sister Lillia Langreck, Milwaukee, and Bob (Mary Ann) Langreck, Neillsville.

Preceding her in death were a granddaughter, Bethany Opelt; a great-granddaughter, Amaya Schleis; a brother, Herb; and her parents.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
