Krueger, Leslie (Arrested - Oct. 1918)

Leslie Krueger, one of the brothers who figured in a sensational shooting with a posse, near Owen, is in custody at Brainerd, Minn. The youth, an admitted army service evader, confessed his identity.

Krueger said he had been in this district for several days. A selective service card issued to Philip Shultz, Chippewa county, Wis., was found on him. According to sheriff Claus Theorin, Krueger declared that he destroyed his card while hiding at the home of his mother and later stole Shultz’s card. He was carrying an automatic pistol when arrested, the sheriff said.

Krueger did not make any statement regarding the resistance which he and his brother made when officers attempted to arrest them, other than to say he ran away from the Krueger home when the firing commenced. He learned of the death of his brother and a member of the posse, from newspaper accounts.

Sheriff Theorin said that Krueger admitted he was opposed to the war, but he asserted, the sheriff said, that neighbors had made false charges of disloyalty against the Krueger family.
